Invited by Prof. WU Jinshui and Youth Innovation Promotion Association, professor Paolo Nannipieri from the University of Florence, Italy visited Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) from March 12 to 18. During his visit, he carried out some academic exchanges and cooperation on the topic of ecological environment studies.
Youth Innovation Promotion Association hosted a Workshop on Collaboration in Soil Systems Biology. Over 40 young scientists and students, from Goettingen University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Agricultural University of Hunan, Zhejiang University, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Hunan institute of microbiology, attended the seminar. At the seminar, Prof. Nannipieri gave two speeches entitled “The soil as a biological system ” and “The role of omics techniques to analyze soil as a biological system”.  He reported the up-to-date developments of soil omics, and discussed the microorganisms mechanism of soil organic matter stabilization processes, soil phosphorus mobilization, and carbon and nitrogen coupling. Although, the presentations  systemically introduced the frontier of the soil biological system, with the superb skills of communication by Prof. Nannipieri, young researchers felt it was easy to follow and the topic is very interesting. The communication with Prof. Nannipieri not only updated the researchers’ ideas, but also broadened their horizon of academic vision.
After the lecture, Prof. Nannipieri visited agricultural environment observation station at Changsha country accompanied by Prof. GE Tida. He highly praised the topic of catchment monitoring and showed a keen interest in the long-term experiment of regulatory soil system studies.
Professor Paolo Nannipieri, is a famous international soil biologist, currently is the editor of Biology and Fertility of Soils, and has widely international influences in the field of soil microbiology and enzymology.
