Key Laboratory of Agro-ecological Processes in Subtropical Region, which established in　 2005, aims to improve agricultural production, land management and environmental quality by developing　 applied technologies; and to be a training and　 demonstration　 base for extension of these applied technologies in other subtropical areas.　　

The　 laboratory 　is mainly　 oriented towards: (1) the assessments　 of 　soil　 erosion　,　 nutrient losses 　and balance, agro-economy and environment; (2) developing the key technology to improve nutrient management with promoted 　efficiency, to 　reduce environmental impacts, and to develop　 approach to　 apply AEZ technologies; (3) improving 　land-use 　and 　management　, with 　applied technology　 for　 bio- remediation　 of 　degraded soil and ecosystems;　 (4) developing　 applied　 technologies　 for improving crop production through increasing the ability of the　 main 　crops　 (rice and maize) to　 resist 　stresses (chilling, water-mergence, drought) and animal production with safe quality, reducing environmental impacts through the 　application　 of 　new　 feedstuff　 resource 　and improvement of hilly grassland in the subtropical region of China.
