Pro. Xie was granted the Bachelor and the Master degree of Agronomy by Hunan Agriculture University in 1997 and 2000 respectively, the Doctor degree of Botany by Wuhan University in 2003 and the Post-doctor of Biology by Nanjing University in 2005. After graduation, worked as a professor in the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agriculture, CAS during 2005-2006, and went to Flinders University as a high-level visitorial scholar during 2006.2-2006.5. After that, came to the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, CAS as a researcher till now.
The scholarship Pro. Xie has got, including the Associate stationmaster of Dongting Lake Station for Wetland Ecosystem Research, Doctoral Tutor, the vice-director of International Research Center of Dongting Lake Wetlands, Editor of Chinese Journal of Applied Ecology. Meanwhile, he has received honors, such as the "outstanding post-graduate" of Wuhan University, the " talent development foundation" of the Personnel Office of Jilin Province, the "outstanding young scientists and technicians" of Guangzhou Branch, the CAS, the "Youth Learning Award" and "Nomination Award of the Ten Outstanding Youth "of the units belong to Hunan Province. Pro. Xie has long been engaged in the research of wetland ecology and good at plant ecology. Studying fields include the formation mechanisms of the zonation of wetland vegetation, ecological consequences of the major human projects, biological invasion, responses of wetland vegetation to the global climate change, rehabilitation of wetland vegetation, etc. Recently, he has chaired or participated in nine projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the knowledge innovation project of Chinese Academy of Sciences, "973" Thematic. Pro. Xie has published (including printing) 37 research papers (including 17 papers published in SCI source,total cited times 65), participated in writing one book, and authorized two invention patents.
