Prof. Dr. W.B. Souffrant, from Research Institute for the Biology of Farm Animals (FBN) and President of International Association of Digestive Physiology of Pigs, visited ISA, CAS, during October 22nd to 26th, 2008.

Prof. Souffrant paid a visit to the Key Laboratory of Processes of Agro-ecosystem, and appreciated the achievements in the construction of the laboratory, the cultivation of postgraduates and the contribution to the healthy production of livestock, especially highly evaluated the scientific research achievement entitled “Applied Techniques of Regulating Nitrogen and Phosphorus Metabolism in Livestock and Poultry and Safety Feed Production”. Prof. Souffrant evaluated that the research method systems on nutrition and physiology mechanism in pigs not only had great innovation, but provided theoretical basis for the study on manipulation of nitrogen and phosphorus metabolism, and on environmental safety. These method systems solved many key technical problems on international pig nutrition research and feed sciences. After the visiting periods, Prof. Souffrant hoped that the project team of Dr. Yulong Yin, from ISA, CAS, would submit excellent papers forⅪ International Symposium on Digestive Physiology of Pigs.

Prof. Souffrant has been cooperating with the group of Dr. Yulong Yin in study on protein and amino acids nutrition from 1980s. The research achievement entitled “Ileal digestibility of nutrients and requirements of the available amino acids for growing pigs” won the Third Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.
