Huanjiang Ecological Station of ISA was recently honored for the Soil and Water Conservation Sci-Tech Demonstration Park by the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China. To strengthen the observation and research on soil and water erosion in Karst region, ISA signed a cooperation agreement on the platform construction of Guangxi soil erosion observation with the Department of Water Resources of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in April, 2007. In December, 2007, the first Soil and Water Conservation Sci-Tech Demonstration Park of Guangxi was set up in Huanjiang Station of ISA. With the support of Action Plan Projects for the Western Region of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Karst Station has made great progresses in the spatial variation of water and nutrient loss in underground soil using the field observation combining with isotope tracer method. Based on the Karst peak cluster landscape structure and the movement process of water-soil, ecological engineer design has been developed. Herbivorous animal husbandry becomes one of the most important income sources for local farmers.

The construction of sci-tech demonstration park on water and soil erosion has been emphasized by the Ministry of Water Resources. The scientific research, monitoring, researching and educating on soil and water conservation will be enhanced in the park to play more important role in the demonstration and technology supporting system.
