ISA Student KEFYALEW GEBEYEW MEKONNEN Awarded Excellent International Graduates of UCAS
Recently, Dr. KEFYALEW GEBEYEW MEKONNEN, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been awarded Excellent International Graduates of UCAS.
KEFYALEW began a Ph.D. journey in ISA in 2018 with the support of TWAS-CAS President’s Fellowship. After a semester of course study in Beijing, he joined Professor TAN Zhiliang & He Zhixiong’s research group for research work. During his four years of study in ISA, he mainly focused on the application of a low-protein diet with and without limiting amino acids in growing lambs, and received a doctor’s degree in Ecology this year.
"I met many good people around me, who are very kind and generous, and their blueprint contribution to my academic success is remarkable," as he said. "Hardworking culture, passionate attitude, and inspiration are some of the assets I used from them. During my Ph.D. study, I have acquired core experience in digestive physiology, immunology, molecular microbiology, metabolomics, and other lab techniques" said Kefyalew. His research outputs have been published in highly reputable scientific journals, including Animal Science and Biotechnology, Frontiers in Nutrition, Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, and Animals. The published articles have a sum of more than 25 points (IF) and are cited more than 160 times in SCI papers, praised by his mentor, Professor Tan.
It is understood that only 30 international students got excellent international graduates awards. Currently, KEFYALEW has been awarded for postdoctoral position under the special research assistant program at the ISA. During his postdoctoral period, he will continue contributing excellently to animal nutrition and physiology. As a young scholar, his future goal is to build an academic career and contribute to the scientific world.
