The Huanjiang Station for Karst Agro-ecosystem Research was established in 1999 in the north area (Huanjiang County) of Guangxi Autonomous District and selected as a national field observation and research station of agro-ecosystems in 2005. It has a total area of the experimental station is 146 ha which covers typical Karst land features including peaks (20%) and depressions (77%). The station includes three sites for studies and demonstrations of the remediation modes for the degraded Karst ecosystems, land use and agricultural system planning for newly-cultivated region, and field observations for ecological changes under different land-use systems (soil erosion and degradation, water dynamics, soil fertilities).
