On January 29, all scientists participating in the project on Supporting Technologies Research and Demonstration of Suburb Environment-friendly Characteristic Agriculture, a National Eleventh Five-Year Plan key projects, gathered in Changsha,and summed up the implementation situation within two years. They were respectively coming from Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Institute

of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China agricultural university, Huazhong Agricultural University, Shenyang Institute of Applied  Ecology, Chongqing Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other institutions. Professor Dr. Wu Jin-shui, the chief expert of this project, reported on the achieved progress since the implementation in 2007.

Up to now, the project has made great progresses in the soil environment quality management standards, the agricultural product quality standards and production modes, the environmental background evaluation of agricultural products, the prevention and control of eutrophication on suburban environment, the enhancing technologies of environmental conservation, the control technology of nitrogen and phosphorus accumulation in farming fields, the key control technologies of agricultural product quality, and the environmental health and pollution control technologies of intensive livestock production system. The nine new production models and new technologies, thirteen new products, and twenty patents have successfully developed and widely applied, five large demonstration areas which located in the northeast of China, Beijing-Tianjin Tang, central China, the Yangtze River Delta and southwest of China, have also been established, the total demonstration areas have reached above 1360 hectares.
