• "Karst Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Resilience Enhancement Project" from Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Selected for UNESCO's International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development Framework

  On November 28th, the "Karst Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Resilience Enhancement Programme" (referred to as Karst Biodiversity Programme), organized and submitted by Professor Chen Hongsong from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was successfully selected as an implementing initiative for the UNESCO-led International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD) for the period 2024-2033.

  Professor Matthias Hess, a Hellman Fellow and renowned microbiologist from the University of California, Davis, visited the Institute of Subtropical Ecology Agriculture from November 10 to 15, 2025. He was invited by Professor Tan Zhiliang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for collaborative research and academic exchange.

  Located in a typical karst landscape in a section of southwest China that is home to great numbers of impoverished people, Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region suffers from severe rocky desertification and soil erosion and is one of the poorest counties in China. The harsh, unwelcoming conditions in the administrative area have posed great challenges to its large population over the years. Many of its residents made meager livings growing crops like corn and sweet potatoes before poverty alleviation projects were implemented. In 2001, researchers working at the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) began helping Huanjiang harness advantages and characteristics in order to protect the natural environment and reduce poverty in its borders.

  ISA Attend International Conference on Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology (ICoFAB)

  On August 26, the 6th International Conference on Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology (ICoFAB) was held at Mahasarakham University, Thailand. Over 150 scientists from China, Thailand, attended the conference. With invitation as the keynote speaker from the committee of the conference, professor WU Xin from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting and delivered a keynote lecture. Professor Wu focused on the topic ‘Trace Element Selenium in Feed-Food Chain’ mainly in animal nutrition. And introduced the Traditional Chinese Medicine and Agriculture, Industrial Branch, World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
