Professor Leluo Guan from the University of British Columbia Visits Institute of Subtropical Agriculture for Academic Exchanges

Jun 01,2026

Invited by Researcher Tan Zhiliang, Party Secretary of the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Youth Innovation Promotion Association branch of the Institute, Professor Leluo Guan paid a visit to the Institute from May 9 to 17, 2026, for collaborative research and academic exchanges.

On May 16, Professor Guan delivered an academic report entitled Emerging opportunities to explore microbiome research in ruminants. She elaborated on multiple topics, including the correlation between the gut-lung axis and respiratory health in ruminants, optimization of research methodologies for the respiratory microbiome of beef cattle, challenges in regulating body homeostasis via gut microbiota of ruminants, future research directions regarding the bovine gut as a key regulatory hub, as well as the value of microbiome research from the farm-to-table industrial chain perspective. Following the presentation, she engaged in extensive and in-depth discussions with all participants.

This exchange has further strengthened collaborative innovation between the two sides in the field of ruminant animal microbiology and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation.

Professor Leluo Guan currently works in the Department of Applied Biology, Faculty of Land and Food Systems, the University of British Columbia. She also serves as Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Alberta, member of the International Advisory Board of Huazhong Agricultural University, and Canada Research Chair in Animal Microbiology. Additionally, she holds editorial positions as Associate Editor of Microbiome and Editor-in-Chief of Animal Nutriomics. Her research has long focused on functional genomics and microbiomics of ruminants, with major research interests covering bovine functional genomics, ruminal and gut microbiomes, and interaction mechanisms between hosts and microbiomes.
