Chemical Fertilization Affects N and P Runoff Losses from Paddy FieldsBy designing the interaction treatments with different chemical fertilizers (0%, 50%, 70%, 100% and 150% of conventional dosage) and pesticides (0%, 50%, 70% and 100% of conventional dosage), researchers from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) observed ponding water N and P concentrations and N and P runoff losses with high-frequency in three rice seasons in the double rice-cropping paddy fields in hilly areas in South China.Apr 23, 2020 -
How Jersey Cows Adapt to High-Altitude Hypoxia in Tibet? In order to analyze the molecular mechanism of high altitude adaption for dairy cows, a research team of the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of Chinese Academy of Sciences spent a few years on study of high altitude adaption mechanism in ruminants and got important findings using the proteomics and microRNA microarray techniques.Mar 31, 2020 -
L-serine Maintains Intestinal Redox Balance and Promotes Epithelial Cell Growth: StudyResearchers in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences conducted in vivo and in vitro experiments to investigate the role of L-serine deficiency and exogenous L-serine supplementation in the maintenance of intestinal redox balance and cell proliferation in the normal mammalian intestine and the related mechanisms.Feb 22, 2020

Effects of Organic Inputs on Microbial Carbon Use Efficiency and Necromass Accumulation in Paddy Soils RevealedThe researchers from the Instituted of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences examined the microbial CUE, microbial biomass turnover, and necromass accumulation in rice rhizosphere and bulk soils subjected to long-term (31 years) fertilizations. Five fertilization treatments were included: no fertilizers, mineral fertilizers alone, mineral fertilizers plus rice straw incorporation, and mineral fertilizer combined with a low or a high amount of organic manure.Jan 20, 2020 -
Forest Management in Southern China Generates Short Term Extensive Carbon SequestrationRecently, researchers from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), CREAF (Spain), INRA, Institute Pierre Simon Laplace (both France), the University of Oklahoma, the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (China) and other universities identified different forest and land management strategies as well as their biomass carbon sinks from 2002 to 2017 in southern China by combing optical and low frequency passive microwaves satellite data. They also evaluated soil moisture trends from 2010 to 2017 for this area.Jan 10, 2020 -
HMB is Required for Leucine to Inhibit Muscle Protein DegradationUsing a starvation model, a team of researchers from China Agricultural University and the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture (ISA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that HMB (50 μM) is more superior than leucine (0.5 mM) in effectively suppressing protein degradation of C2C12 myotubes. However, it remains unknown whether HMB mediates the inhibitory effects of leucine on protein degradation, and whether the protective effect of HMB is still more effective than that of leucine when its treatment concentration is fay beyond physiological limits.Jan 06, 2020
