• Dietary Protein Levels: is Taking the More the Better?

  a team of researchers from China Agricultural University and the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) together conducted a study to investigate the effects of reduced dietary protein levels on the free amino acid profile and mRNA expression of the selected amino acid transceptors in different fiber type of skeletal muscle (longissimus dorsi, psoas major, biceps femoris) of growing pigs.

• Decomposition and Priming Effect of Four Different Photosynthesized Carbon in Paddy Soil

  Recently, researchers in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture,Chinese Academy of Sciences(ISA) employed 13C labelling techniques and two end-member mixing model to investigate the fate and priming effect of organic C from different sources by conducting a 300 days incubation study with four different 13C-labelled substrates: rice shoots (Shoot-C), rice roots (Root-C), rice rhizodeposits (Rhizo-C), and microbe-assimilated C (Micro-C).

• Karst Area Has a Rapid Recuperation of Soil Nitrogen Following Agricultural Abandonment in Southwest China

  In order to detect how N status change along with succession, a team of researchers in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) investigated soil N stock and N cycling indicators (e.g.soil dissolved inorganic N concentration, foliar N concentration, 15N of foliar and soil etc.) in cropland, grassland, shrubland, secondary forest and primary forest in a large portion of the karst region in southwest China with the grassland, shrubland and secondary forest developed spontaneously from abandoned cropland.

• Dissolved Hydrogen Concentrations in Lactating Dairy Cows are Associated with Rumen Fermentation and Microbiota

  Professor Wang Min and his group did an experiment to test the hypothesis that carbohydrates ingested greatly alter the rumen environment in dairy cows, and that dissolved hydrogen concentration is associated with these changes in rumen fermentation and microbiota.

• The Effect of Manure Amendment on Soil C Accumulation and Fertilizer N Use was More Effective than Straw Return

  Researchers in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) employed an integrated method to estimate the effect of fertilization on paddy SOC sequestration, based on 106 paired data points from 28 long-term field experiments with double-rice cropping system in subtropical China. The fertilization schemes were selected as chemical fertilizer (NPK), NPK plus straw (NPK+s), and NPK plus manure (NPK+m).

  Recently, a team of researchers from China Agricultural University, the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) conducted a study to investigate the effects of low-protein diets (17% crude protein, CP ) supplemented with different BCAA ratios on the intramuscular fat (IMF) content and fatty acid composition in different location of skeletal muscles, including the longissimus dorsi, biceps femoris (BF), and psoas major muscle of growing pigs, and also examined the mRNA expression levels of genes involved in lipid metabolism in these muscle tissues.

• Can Alpha-Ketoglutarate Replace Glutamine in Piglet Enterocytes?

  researchers in the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISA) found that alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) as a precursor of Gln and glutamate, is more inexpensive, soluble, and stable than Gln, thus it would potentially replace Gln in swine production. Especially, AKG, which serves as a central intermediate of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, as well as the carbon skeleton for the synthesis of glutamate and glutamine(Gln), plays a key role in the oxidation of fatty acids, amino acids, and glucose.
